Five Years…

Five years ago today, I worked with the Chester County Historical Society to launch the Chester County Time Machine in West Chester, PA. I hung QR Codes in the windows of eight local West Chester locations:

Over the next two years, it would expand to include two tours and 28 locations at its peak, including:

In 2015, I shut down the QR Code project and founded Digital Exhibition Systems Inc. My friend, Peter LoBue, helped me create a prototype that we submitted to the PACT Wayfinding App Challenge, presented by The Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies and the University of Pennsylvania. We came in second place and used the money we won to create an iPhone app developed by Clay Zug. We launched our app at the Coatesville Centennial Heritage Day and spent most of our first year as part of the Coatesville Business Incubator in the basement of the Coatesville Area Public Library.

We launched our app at the Coatesville Centennial Heritage Day and spent most of our first year as part of the Coatesville Business Incubator in the basement of the Coatesville Area Public Library. Now, we are back where we began, in historic West Chester, PA.

Over the years we have been lucky to work with other organizations around the country, including Storm Print City, the Coatesville Historical Commission, and the Chaska Historical Society. Today we have almost 300 locations in the Philadelphia, Chicago, New York City, Washington D.C., and Minneapolis regions with more to come soon.

We have been busy working through the summer, and we have a lot of cool stuff to share with you. In October, we will be debuting two new tours and rolling out our long-awaited Android version. Sign up to our email list and be the first to know when it becomes available.

Over these last five years, it has been amazing to see my project grow. I don’t have enough space to thank all the people who helped us reach this point, but I do want to especially thank Pam Powell, David Reinfield, and the late Rob Lukens for not laughing me out of the room when I came in without an appointment talking about a Time Machine way back when. We will be relaunching our old QR Code System soon, so you can see where it all began.

Stay tuned fellow Time Travelers, because the Future of History is now…
